About Me

Hamish Beshara

I first started documenting my fungal encounters while working at an outdoor adventure camp. Every autumn, the bush came alive with small bonnets (Mycena sp.) poking out of native grasses, and I found myself obsessed with the colourful diversity of these largely unseen organisms.

These days, I devote most weekends during the fungi season in Victoria to capturing portraits of these diverse and fascinating lifeforms. Some of my favourite places to visit are Kinglake National Park, Tarra-Bulga National Park, and Yarra Ranges National Park.

I have been a member of the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria since 2018 and coordinate the activities of the Fungi Special Interest Group.

Each year I self-publish a fungi calendar featuring my favourite images from the season. The 2024 and 2025 editions are sold out — the next edition will be released in spring.

I license images for editorial, book, and magazine use. Please contact me to discuss your project.

What's astonishing is the gulf between what we expect to find and what we find when we actually look.
